The Friendship Verdict

Syrian hamsters are strictly solitary. Housing two together will result in a fight to the death once maturity is reached (8–10 weeks). Dwarf species can occasionally pair, but the risk of "declanning" and lethal fighting remains extremely high.

The Best Way to Meet

Never rush an introduction! To help your Hamster and Hamster become friends (or at least share a room safely), follow these simple steps:

  • 1
    Do not attempt with Syrians.
  • 2
For Dwarfs: start with a clean, neutral cage (≥800 sq in).
  • 3
    Introduce both animals simultaneously.
  • 4
Monitor for the first 72 hours without breaks.

🚨 Signs of Trouble

If you see any of these behaviors while your pets are near each other, separate them immediately.

Squeaking or shrieking.
Resource guarding (blocking the wheel or water).
Bite wounds or blood.
🏡
Home & Space Tip: Duplicate resources (2 wheels, 2 bottles) are mandatory for dwarf pairs.
